The Titan

This Titan is from the Wendell Kelch collection. It's the only restored & operational 30-60 Titan in the world. The tractor weighs 21,000 lbs. and is a big hunk!! This tractor was built in Milwaukee in 1917, the 8th from the last one built.

The plan is to start, run and parade the tractor during the show.

Custom Tractor Club

The Custom Tractor Club has about 250 members world wide. This will be our 18th annual show, and we move from state to state. This is the first time for the annual show to be held in Wisconsin, so this will be exciting for us as we have about 25 members in Wisconsin. We are hoping for a good turn out.

The tractors were built by Custom Mfg. Corp. of Shelbyville,Indiana and later at Hustisford, Wisconsin. About 2500 total were built, all using Chrysler Industrial 6 cylinder engines, in 3 different sizes. They were built from late 1947-1954.

They were sold under 4 different names: Custom, Lehr Big Boy,Wards, andRockol. The Custom was sold through various distributors, The Lehr was sold through the Lehr Equipment Co.of Richmond, Indiana, the Wards was sold through Montgomery Wards retail stores, and the Rockol was sold in Canada through the Rock Oil Company of Edmonton, Alberta.

RALLY
of 2010

The Rally is to be held in conjunction with The Badger Steam and Gas Engine Club’s 47th annual show. Attendees who are exhibitors will enter through the “Exhibitors Entrance” on the south side of the show grounds. Proceed to the registration desk at the F&J Museum where you will receive your tickets, ribbons, F&J “goodies”, and rally information. You qualify as an exhibitor if you bring any Fuller & Johnson item i.e. engine, manual, tool, decal, etc. During the rally, you are free to enjoy the F&J exhibits and chat with the other collectors. Save some time to see the Badger Club’s featured “Red Power” exhibit and other exciting features throughout the entire show grounds.

On Friday night, you are invited to an “On Wisconsin” picnic on the Badger grounds, hosted by Stan and Sandra Johnson. Saturday night is the banquet at the Voyager Inn in Reedsburg where we will enjoy dinner together along with a cash bar, entertainment, guest speaker, silent auctions, and door prizes. A Fuller & Johnson 2-hp NB engine is being raffled to F&J Rally attendees only. (Winner need not be present.) Tickets are $5.00 each or five for $20.00 and may be purchased during the Rally at the Fuller & Johnson Museum. The winner of the engine raffle will be announced at the banquet.

The section of the river between LaValle and Reedsburg generally takes between 3-5 hours depending on hard you want to paddle. This is a great opportunity to enjoy a very scenic section of the Baraboo River.

These parties tackle specific tasks at our preserves. Typical activities include exotic plant removal, brush cutting, seed collecting, and planting. Most of our work parties are also announced in the newsletter. Work party leaders will contact regular attendees with information about upcoming land management projects and scheduled work parties.

Sauk/Columbia Counties
The oak and maple forests of the Baraboo Hills constitute the largest block of upland forest still standing in southern Wisconsin. They provide habitat for more than 1,800 kinds of plants and animals. There are many volunteer opportunities to help manage this special place.

Baxter’s Hollow
Baxter's Hollow is remarkable for the large area of deep forest and the mountain-like creek that it protects.

Saturdays: Jan. 9, Feb. 6
9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Help control invasive buckthorn to prevent it from spreading into the hollow. Meet at the Hwy 12 pull-out at the top of the south bluff.

Directions: Take US Hwy 12 north from Madison or south from Baraboo to a pull-out on the east side of Hwy 12 at the top of the south bluff (this pull-out is south of the intersection with Ski Hi Road).

Saturday: May 1 / 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Plant trees at Baxter’s Hollow as part of a long-term effort to reforest man-made openings in the Baraboo Hills forest cover. Meet at the Hwy 12 pull-out at the top of the south bluff. (Directions above.) Please Note: Plans for this work party are tentative, so please recheck The Nature Conservancy website or call to confirm. Durst Rockshelter and Honey CreekDurst Rockshelter contains an important archeological feature located within a southern mesic forest and provides a beautiful display of spring ephemeral wild flowers. Honey Creek provides habitat for a wide variety of birds and contains a waterfall in a small quartzite canyon near the head of the valley.

Help control invasive garlic mustard at Durst Rockshelter and Honey Creek. In March we will re-mark a grid that helps organize our garlic mustard control efforts at Durst Rockshelter. In April and May, we will control garlic mustard on the Durst, Honey Creek and Hemlock Draw properties — the specific site for each work day is yet to be determined. Meet at the park in Leland.

Directions: Take US Hwy 12 north from Madison or south from Baraboo. Go west on Cnty Hwy C (across from the former Badger Army Ammunition Plant) for about nine miles, past Natural Bridge State Park, into the village of Leland. Meet at the gravel parking lot next to the park and mill pond.

All you need is a park sticker to join in the fun of the torch lit ski, hike or snowshoe at Mirror Lake State Park this winter. Two events are planned for January 2nd. and February 6th. from 6-8:00 PM. The trails will be torch lit and brats, hot dogs, hot chocolate, cider and other goodies will be available to enjoy around two huge bonfires. This is a great winter event, don't miss it!

We have about 12" of snow and we've put the snowshoes out for our guests to enjoy our trails! The local ski resorts are open at Christmas Mountain Village, Devil's Head Lodge and Cascade Mountain. All are within 20 - 40 minutes from us.
